Safe Neighbor Borrowing & Handoffs
Practical tips and platform rules to make sharing, borrowing, and giving away items completely safe and worry-free.
1. The Common-Area Standard
The cornerstone of LendNest's privacy model is the Common-Area Handoff. You never have to invite someone to your apartment or expose your door number to borrow or lend an item.
Recommended Neutral Meeting Spots:
- Building Reception or Ground-Floor Lobby
- Society Clubhouse Entrance or Front Desk
- Main Security Gate or Visitor Area
- Designated Society Parcel Desk
2. Five Golden Rules for Every Exchange
Rule 1: Inspect the item together at handoff
Take 60 seconds during pickup to turn on power tools, check that all accessories (cables, drill bits, charging blocks) are present, and note any existing cosmetic marks.
Rule 2: Keep exact home addresses private
Never type your flat number in public listing titles or descriptions. Keep all handoff details inside the private, confirmed transaction screen.
Rule 3: Stick strictly to agreed dates & times
Neighbors plan projects around their items. If you anticipate being 15 minutes late for a lobby handoff or return, send a message immediately to keep communication clear.
Rule 4: Return items clean and ready for the next person
Wipe down power tools, empty vacuum canisters, and pack cords neatly before returning. Returning an item in great shape builds community reputation.
Rule 5: When in doubt, prioritize safety
If an item looks unsafe or unmaintained (such as frayed wiring or cracked safety guards), do not operate it. Politely notify the owner and decline the borrow.
