What we actually check
We check that people live where they say they live.
Someone listing a room gives proof of address for that building — a utility bill, a maintenance receipt, or something similar in their name. We look at it before their community membership is approved.
Their existing flatmates can then confirm that this person lives in the flat. That is the part a document cannot fake: a broker can produce a bill, but they cannot produce two flatmates who will vouch that they live there.
On a room page you will see exactly which of these is true. If the flatmates have not confirmed yet, it says so.
What we do not check
We do not check whether someone will be a good flatmate. We do not check their background, their finances, whether they pay rent on time, or whether they are pleasant to live with. We do not run identity or criminal checks.
Verified means the room and the household are real. It does not mean we can vouch for anyone. Anyone who tells you a verification badge makes a stranger safe is selling you something.
Before you move in
- See the room in person. Photos are photos.
- Meet the people you would be living with, not just whoever listed it.
- Never transfer a deposit or token amount before you have visited the flat. This is the single most common way people lose money in Indian rentals.
- Ask to see the rent agreement, and get whatever you agree in writing.
If something is wrong
Every room page has a report link. If a listing is not real, is not available, or the person is not who they said they were, tell us — it is the fastest way we find out, and we would rather hear about it than not.
